TL;DR

How Google Ads Billing Works
Google Ads offers two billing models depending on your country and account type.
Automatic payments are the default in most countries. Google charges your payment method after you accumulate advertising costs. You are billed either when your spending reaches a billing threshold or at the end of your monthly billing period, whichever comes first. The billing threshold starts low for new accounts (often around USD 50 or equivalent) and increases as you build a payment history, eventually reaching USD 500 or more.
Manual payments (prepay) are available in some countries. You add funds to your account in advance, and campaigns draw from this balance. When the balance runs out, your ads stop.
Managing Your Billing
Viewing Invoices and Transactions
Go to Billing > Transactions to see a history of all charges. You can download monthly invoices for your accounting records. Each transaction shows the date, amount, payment method used, and the campaigns that generated the costs.
Setting a Monthly Budget Cap
While Google Ads does not have a native monthly cap, you can approximate one by setting daily budgets carefully. Your monthly spend will never exceed your daily budget multiplied by 30.4 (the average days in a month). For precise monthly control, consider using shared budgets across campaigns or automated rules to pause campaigns at certain spend thresholds.
Promotional Credits
Google occasionally offers promotional credits (e.g., "Spend AED 1,000, get AED 1,000 free"). These are applied in Billing > Promotions. Enter the promotional code before it expires. Credits typically apply to new accounts only and have spending and time requirements.
Common Billing Issues
Card declined: Ensure your card allows international transactions and has sufficient funds. Some banks flag Google's charges as suspicious — contact your bank to whitelist Google payments.
Overcharged: Google can spend up to 2x your daily budget on high-traffic days, but your monthly total will not exceed daily budget × 30.4. If you see higher-than-expected charges, check if multiple campaigns are running simultaneously.
Need an invoice with tax details: Go to Billing > Settings and ensure your tax ID is entered. Monthly invoices with tax breakdowns are available for download.
Changing payment method: You can add a new payment method and set it as primary at any time. The old method remains on file unless you remove it.

Access Billing Settings
In Google Ads, click the Tools icon (wrench) in the top navigation, then select Billing > Settings. If your account is brand new, you may be prompted to complete billing setup before you can create campaigns.

Click "Add payment method" and choose your option. Available methods vary by country but typically include credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), debit cards, bank transfers or direct debit, and in some markets, invoicing for large spenders. In the UAE and most GCC countries, credit and debit cards are the primary methods. Ensure your card allows international transactions, as Google processes payments from its billing entity (typically based in Ireland or Singapore depending on your region).

Enter Billing Information
Provide your business billing address. This should match your registered business address. If applicable, enter your tax identification number. In the UAE, this is your TRN (Tax Registration Number). Google will apply the appropriate tax treatment based on your location.

Review the billing summary, agree to the terms, and submit. Your payment method will be verified — Google may place a small temporary charge that is refunded to confirm the card works.
